Did you all enjoy the holiday? It’s a busy weekend here in town, so let’s see what’s happening.
Thursday, September 19th
You don’t need to keep up on current events to enjoy trivia night at Speakeasy, but it sure does help! That’s because it’s one of the many categories that are featured, along with music, movies, and more. It only costs 5,000 won to play, and there’s a chance for cash and other prizes! The second place team will get their money back, and first place will get the rest of the pot. Get together a team of your friends (max. 5) for a fun night of answers and questions. Don’t have a team? Not to worry, you can always find one to join. Nate is your quiz master, so get out to Speakeasy tonight! For more details, please visit their Facebook page.
It’s Friday night, and the people of Gwangju know that the place to be is Tequilaz! Start with some of their delicious tacos for only 3,000 won each. You’re gonna need something to wash them down with, so how about unlimited drafts for 15,000 won? If you prefer cocktails, then you can start off the weekend with unlimited rail drinks for 20,000 won. All specials run from 9:00 p.m., until midnight, and are cash only please. For more details, and to see what else is going on at Tequilaz, please visit their Facebook page.
The best way to improve your professional development is to come to the monthly meeting of the Gwangju chapter of KOTESOL. The meeting will begin at 1:45 p.m. at Gwangju National University of Education. There will be two wonderful presentations given that will give you some ideas that you can use in your own classroom. There will also be an opportunity to meet and network with fellow teachers. The meeting is free to attend, but they do encourage you to become a member. This Saturday you can play cornhole in Gwangju, and help raise money for a good cause! Hey Bill, what exactly is cornhole? Well, it’s a game where you have to toss a bean bag at a raised platform with a hole in it. It’s been popular for many , many years, but is especially surging in interest right now. The Gwangju Bombers, our very own ex pat baseball team, and Adopt-A-Child are teaming up for this event. You can register as a team of two, or just by yourself. The cost for registration is only 20,000 won. For more info, including directions to the event, please go to their Facebook event page. Enjoy the game of cornhole, and help raise money for charity!
The summer break is over, and live music is returning to Speakeasy! Rock favorites The Monday Feeling will be returning to a very appreciative Gwangju crowd. If you’ve seen them before, then you know they tear it up for their audiences! The music will start at 10:30 p.m., and yes, you can expect some great drink specials. But wait a minute, that’s not the only thing happening this Saturday at Speakeasy. The Rugby World Cup is starting, and the first big game of the tournament will be shown on the big screen. The All Blacks of New Zealand will take on the Springboks of South Africa. The game will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday.
