Friday, July 12th
We’ve all seen the signs, banners, and advertisements for the past couple of years now. Finally though, the wait is over. The 18th FINA World Championships begins today. Events will be held all over Jeollanamdo, including here at Chosun University, Nambu University, and Yeomju Gymnasium. Swimming, diving, and water polo are just some of the events that you will be able to attend. The championships begin today, and go through until July 28th. There is a lot that changes in this city, but you can always count on the Friday night specials at Tequilaz. Enjoy their delicious tacos for only 3,000 won each. Saturday, July 13th
This Saturday the Gwangju-Jeonnam chapter of KOTESOL will hold their monthly meeting. They will feature two great presentations, that will hopefully give you some good ideas for your classroom. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet, and network with fellow teachers. The meeting will take place at Gwangju National University of Education, beginning at 1:45 p.m. The meeting is free to attend, but they do encourage you to become a member. Another edition of the GIC Talk series will take place today. Gwangju resident Dana Han will continue her lecture series, “Be the Change”. This month’s topic will focus on how compassion can find its way into our lives. The talks are held at the GIC, and they begin at 4:00 p.m. The talks usually last for about an hour. It’s time to go back to . . . the 80s, and the 90s this Saturday night at Loft 28! Be prepared to hear a lot of your favorites from when you were growing up, and people actually listened to the radio! Besides the DJs providing quality tunes, you know that there will be some great drink specials as well. There’s always a party going on Saturday nights at Loft 28, and this weekend is no exception.
