Please be sure to protect your home and pipes from the cold weather. In the past week and in the upcoming weeks the weather is still set to be super chilly and dip into the negative temperatures at night.
Just a quick update : despite my best efforts to protect my home and pipes by following the information the weather turned super cold last week which unfortunately lead to frozen pipes in my building.
Please be advised that the heating and water pipes are often separated and thus having your heating on might not mean that the water in the pipes will stay liquid. Therefore if you are leaving a tap dripping overnight, ensure it is a steady drip or slight stream. If you fear that this might be wasting water use a bucket to collect. It’s better than having to wait for pipes to thaw.
Most importantly, because of the unforeseen super cold snap most frozen pipes will be classed as a ‘natural disaster’ which means that no one is technically responsible and that they don’t have to take any other action besides ‘wait till it thaws’ which with the current forecast could take weeks.
Frustrating but after calling various helplines, water companies and even emergency center ‘wait till it thaws’ was the unanimous response.
So please take care, leave the tap dripping and goodluck.
