The Korean Swimming Federation held their 2018 National Team selection at Nambu University International Swimming Pool in Gwangju from Friday, the 27th. The country’s top swimming stars including Park Tae Hwan, Ahn Se Hyeon and Kim Seo Yeong participated in the event.
During the 4-day event, the federation selected the swimmers and divers who would take part in this year’s Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games which opens on August 15th and runs till September 2nd, 2018.
In related news it is 437 days left to go until the kick off of the 18th FINA World Championships in Gwangju 2019 (#세계수영선수권대회) which will run from July 12th to July 28th 2019 for 17 days which will also be held at the same venue as this past weekends races.
For 2019, 5 competition venues, 2 training venues will be used and will include
- NAMBU UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL AQUATICS CENTER
- NAMBU UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL FIELD
- YEOMJU GYMNASIUM
- YEOSU EXPO OCEAN PARK (TBD)
- CHOSUN UNIVERSITY FOOTBALL FIELD.
Events that will be showcased include swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, open water swimming and diving are the main categories with many disciplines within each.
Also the City of Gwangju plans to increase its efforts to increase exchanges with North Korea announcing that it will begin its effort to expand the exchange with North Korea after the inter-Korea summit, by encouraging North Korean athletes to participate in the championship.
According to the World Aquatics Championship organization committee, it will prepare an Inter-Korean Cultural performance in September this year to celebrate 300 days until the opening of the competition along with the North Korean Art Performance to be held in Seoul this autumn.
