With only one year left to go until the opening of 2019 Gwangju World Aquatics Championship, FINA President Julio Maglione visited Gwangju and met with press earlier on this month.
During the press conference, the president said he is sure North Korea will send its athletes to the championship.
President Maglione also pledged to provide necessary financial support for at least 2 male and 2 female swimmers from the North adding that North Korea is showing willingness to compete at the next year’s Gwangju competition.
President Maglione was on a 3-day visit to the city and toured around competition venues in Yeosu on Friday and attend D-1 year event at Chosun University
The 2019 Gwangju World Aquatics Championship will take place from July 12th to 28th and Masters Competition will be held from August 5th to 18th in participation of some 15,000 swimmers and officials from 200 countries.
