The 37th Presidential Swimming Championship opened its 5-day run on Thursday.
The 37th Presidential Cup National Swimming Championship, kicked off at Nambu University International Swimming Pool today. The competition is hosted and operated by the Korea Swimming Federation and Gwangju City Swimming Association, and sponsored by Gwangju City and some 3,000 athletes and related officials will participate.
Athletes were categorized into 3 groups, elementary to high school students, university students, and general participants. In the event, 4 races will be held including various swimming disciplines, diving, water polo and Artistic swimming.
Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong Seob said this competition is held in hopes of better preparing for the upcoming 2019 Gwangju World Aquatics Championship. He requested sincere support and sponsorships from the Korea Swimming Federation, related swimming agencies and companies for a successful event.
The competition is comes 10 months before the opening of the 2019 Gwangju World Aquatics Championship to check the readiness for hosting of the international event, to find promising athletes, contribute to the swimming boom in the region, and to activate the local economy.
