For this week’s segment, we have a Gwangju native!  A truly dynamic individual, this lady seems to have enough energy to power a small city…smiling all the while.  She’s also your K-pop connection at GFN.  Here, in her own words, is Han Soohee…a person you should know in Gwangju.

How long have you been in Gwangju?

I was born in Gwangju. But when I was 16, I went to Canada (Vancouver) to study English and spent my high school and university time there. In 2008, I came back to Gwangju for my mother(Please don’t calculate my age… I am not old, just wiser than some people who are younger than me^^).

What do you do here in Gwangju?

I have worked at GFN(광주영어방송) for 6 years. Can’t believe it, but it’s true. HaHa!

What did you do before you took up your current job?

I was an English teacher at a kindergarten. Also, I was preparing to go to graduate school in Korea.

What has been your most rewarding achievement?

Right now. I am still ALIVE and enjoying what I do with my life. Also, I have my friends and you(readers^^) who I can share my stories and moment with!

What do you do for fun?

Work & work & work & work… workaholic! One of my friends told me that I should bury myself right in front of GFN because I am always working there….  But if I have some free time, then I really try my best to watch a movie at the theater, travel around Korea, discover some great restaurants, listen to k-pop and make some great memories with people.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve ever done?

Working as a producer/host at the radio station. When I was a little girl, I always wished to be a comedian. So when I got a job at GFN, I was very happy and interested in working for the media. I think I am very lucky because my dream came true. I achieved what I dreamed, so I think I should make another interesting goal to achieve. So BE THE ONE WHO CHASES YOUR DREAM.

Any family? Pets?

My parents, one younger brother… My future husband and his family? I really want to get a lifelong friend (spouse), but it’s really hard to have one. Wish me  good luck on that. I wish I could have a pet (especially a dog), but my mother and I are allergic … so I only can have goldfish or reptiles as pets.

What is something you wish you could do?

I wish I could travel around the world with my man, but I don’t have him yet. Don’t worry I will have him as soon as possible!!

Any embarrassing tales for public consumption?

Answering these questions… because I never thought  people would want to know about me. When Brian approached me to ask about this interview, I felt really happy and embarrassed at the same time. I think I am not an interesting and important person at all, but thank you very much whoever requested this interview! You brightened up my day. Thanks a lot!!

Is there any person you admire?

Every single person. I really admire everybody. They have their own life stories, and I think I can learn something from each person.

Any personal code you live by?

Be positive, try your best and never regret what you have chosen for your life.

What’s your “perfect” day in Gwangju?

Today! Today is my perfect day! I try to make every today as a perfect day. Of course it won’t or couldn’t be perfect all the time, but if you think today is the perfect day, then it will be… Right?

Is there any place in Gwangju you recommend?

You better visit my neighborhood UnLimDong(운림동). This is near the entrance of Mudeung Mt. Actually there is a trail called DongJukGol(동적골). If you are not a big fan of climbing, then come over here and enjoy a 30 min walk. If you come during the night time and are lucky enough, then you can see fireflies. It’s one of my favorite places in Gwangju.

What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their life?

LOVE!!!!! I mean the TRUE LOVE!! I think I am hungry for love now…. Hahaha!

Any advice you want to give the people of Gwangju?

Life is short, and there are so many things to enjoy! Please enjoy your life, but you always have to watch out what is happening around you.
