For the past year and a half Zumba at the GIC has been a staple of the Gwangju scene on Thursdays. Hey Bill, it says Friday at the top of this post. Are you losing it? No, the heat is not affecting me. This week is a very special, and perhaps bittersweet Zumba class. That’s because it will be the last one at the GIC. The Final Shakedown will be taking place tonight from 6:00 p.m., until 8:30 p.m. It’s going to be a special class, with prizes, food, and surprise guests, so you are certainly not going to want to miss this. Make sure you bring a towel, some water, and for this last class a very reasonable 10,000 won. The class will be led by Thando Mlambo, and I know many of us in Gwangju are very thankful for all the work she has done so we could be in better health! For more info, please go to the Facebook page here.

Gwangju Live is back at Speakeasy tonight, and the terrific duo of Andrew Vlasbom and Eden Jones will be performing. The two have played many venues around town, but they’ll be entertaining a very appreciative crowd on Speakeasy’s stage. The show will begin sometime after 10:00 p.m., but don’t forget to get there early to enjoy their happy hour specials. They run from 7:00 p.m., to 10:00 p.m. For more information, and to find out what else is happening there, please go to the Facebook page here.

If you’ve enjoyed the past shows of the Gwangju Performance Project (GPP), now is your chance to try and be a part of their next production! Today, and tomorrow the 29th, the GPP will be having open auditions for their next performance, The Wiz. The Wiz premiered on Broadway back in the 70s, and was also made into a feature film that starred Dianna Ross, and Michael Jackson. The auditions will be held from 2:00 p.m., to 5:00 p.m. on both days. If you plan on auditioning, be prepared to sing a song from the show, and do a little choreography. They are also looking for set designers, make up artists, and other behind the scenes staff. Also, on Sunday the 29th, the GPP will have a general committee meeting. If you would like to be a part of this great organization, come on down to the GIC and find out how. The meeting will begin at 12:00 p.m. For information about both of these events, please check out the GPP Facebook page.
