Hello Gwangu!

We’re heading into November which is when the cold weather usually starts. Will the weather hold up this weekend? It doesn’t really matter because we have a lot of great stuff you can do!

Did you go a little overboard with the Halloween candy? Looking for a good way to work it off? If you’re thinking it’s Thursday and it’s time for Zumba, then you are correct! Zumba is a fun cardio class that is open to any level. It takes place at 7 p.m. at the GIC, and is led by certified Zumba instructor Thando Mlambo. Make sure you wear comfy clothes, bring a towel, and a bottle of water because you’re going to need it. Start your weekend off in a healthy way with Zumba at the GIC! For more details, please go to the Facebook event page here.

Watching movies with friends is always a good idea, and the Gwangju Movie Club is having another get together tonight. They’ll be having a rather interesting double feature. First up is the action comedy Tower Heist, starring Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy. That will be followed by the thriller November Man starring Pierce Brosnan. What’s the connection? You’ll just have to go and find out! For more information about tonight’s double feature, please visit the club’s Facebook page. The first film kicks off at 7 p.m.

The place to start off your day is at the GIC! First up is the Saturday Art Class. This weekend they will have another of their popular female figure drawing classes. The class starts at 12:45 p.m., and the model will arrive at 1 p.m. Once the model arrives, the doors will be locked for their privacy. The cost of the class is only 10,000 won, and all materials will be provided for you. If you need more information, then simply go to their Facebook page. This weekend’s class will be led by local artist, Jen Lee. Make sure to stick around the GIC because at 4 p.m. they have their Saturday lecture series. Today they will have a presentation led by Jawad Gulistani, who is a visiting professor from Afghanistan, who is also studying at Chonnam National University. For more information about the discussion, please go to the GIC Talk Facebook page. For additional information about both of these events, you can also go to the GIC’s website.

Pop up restaurants/food stalls are all the rage in western countries, and now they’re becoming popular in Asia as well. This Saturday night Speakeasy is partnering with the Damyang House to provide a night of pork sliders and whisky! Starting at 7 p.m. (and until supplies last), head to Speakeasy for some slow-cooked, pork sliders. You’ll also get a 1,000 won discount of any whisky (also bottle of Budweiser) with your purchase. Let’s hope this pop up event is the start of a regular occurrence here in Gwangju! For more info, please go to Speakeasy’s Facebook page.

After you get your fill of pork sliders and whisky, then get over to the Dreamer’s Space at the Daein Night Market for an open mic fundraiser. Tonight, some of Gwangju’s talented musicians will be raising money for the Gwangju Animal Shelter! It all begins at 7 p.m., and goes until 10 p.m. If you would like more details (or perhaps you would like to perform), then please go to their Facebook event page.

Sunday, November 5th
