We have a three day holiday weekend to enjoy! Let’s see what’s going on in Gwangju.
Thursday, May 3rd
If you’re looking for a boost of energy to help you prepare for the weekend, then look no further than the GIC because that’s where the weekly Zumba class is held. What is Zumba? It is a fun and energetic cardio class that is open to people of any level. The class takes place at the GIC from 7:00 p.m., until 8:00 p.m. You’ll need some comfortable clothes, and a bottle of water, but you’ll feel refreshed and ready for the weekend. Certified Zumba instructor Thando Mlambo is the leader of the class. If you need more details then please check out their Facebook page.
You can give your body a workout during Zumba class, but you can also flex your brain muscles at trivia night! The competition takes place at Speakeasy, and it only costs 5,000 won to play. Gather a team together (max. 5 people), or you can find a team to join when you get there. The second place team will get there money back, and the first place team will win the rest. There are also prizes if you get a perfect round. Topics range from movies and music, to current events and more. The fun begins at 10:00 p.m. If you need more info, please go to Speakeasy’s Facebook page, where you can also find out about their Cinco De Mayo specials all weekend (Corona bottles 5,000 won) and sign up for their Sunday pool tourney which starts at 6:00 p.m. You could win 5,000 won, and a bar tab.
Friday, May 4th
Cinco De Mayo does mean the 5th of May, but at Tequilaz the fiesta is so big that it takes place all weekend! Starting tonight you can celebrate Cinco De Mayo by enjoying great food and drink specials. You can get tacos for 3,000 won each, or you can get two and pair them with a Margarita for 10,000 won. They will have Margaritas for 5,000 won, and 4 house shots of tequila for 10,000 won. Plus there will be specials that I don’t even know about yet! Since the party lasts all weekend, you have your choice of three nights to enjoy it. For all the complete details, please go to their Facebook page.
Tonight at Loft 28 is the return of their open mic contest. If you want to participate, all you have to do is bring your own instrument, and Loft will take care of the rest. Tonight’s winner will get a free bottle of alcohol, a trophy, and most importantly, bragging rights! Make sure you get their early to try some of their Jamaican cuisine. It’s very popular with the residents of Gwangju! For all the details about the contest, and to find out what else is going on at Loft, please go to their Facebook page. The contest will begin at 10:00 p.m.
Saturday, May 5th
For those of you with children, you might want to consider taking them to the ACC for Children’s Day. They have a great area for children indoors, and outside there’s plenty of space for them to run around and have fun. There’s also the big, grassy area next to the ACC, which looks like a perfect place for a Children’s Day picnic. If you need more information about what’s going on their, just click on the link to their website.
If you’re looking for something else to do with the family, and don’t mind traveling just a little outside of the city, then you might want to check out the annual Bamboo Festival in Damyang. There will be live entertainment, games for the kids, food and drink, and a lot of things made out of bamboo! If you need more information, then please click on this link. The festival will run until the 7th of May.
Live music is coming back next week!
Embarass yourself for a good cause!
