Hello Gwangju!

It’s September and that means the weather is finally cooling down (a bit). Let’s see what is happening this weekend in our city.

Trivia at Speakeasy is back from its summer break, and there have been a few changes to make it even more enjoyable! First, there will only be 6 rounds, which is good for those who have an early start on Friday. Second, there will be a theme to the categories, and tonight kicks off with television. The other rules still apply: only 5,000 won to play, and you can have a team of up to 5 players. Second prize gets their money back, and first prize wins the rest of the pot. With great drinks, and the friendly staff at Speakeasy, you have plenty of reasons to test your knowledge on television. If you would like more information, please go to the Facebook event page. Trivia begins at 10:00 p.m.

Friday, September 8th

If you’re a fan of open mic nights, then you need to head over to Loft 28 for the only weekly showcase in town. If you are interested in performing, all you have to do is bring your own instrument and Loft will provide the rest. An even better reason to perform is that all participants receive a free drink! Make sure you get there early so you can try some of their delicious homemade food. Their menu is a favorite among many Gwangju residents. If you need more details, then you can go to Loft’s Facebook page. Open mic night will begin at 11 p.m.

There will be two presentations, as well as ample time to meet and network with fellow teachers. You might just even get an idea or two to use in your classroom. The meeting begins at 1:45 p.m., and the first presentation will begin around 2 p.m. For more information you can follow this link. There will be clothes, kitchenware, accessories and more at the event. It starts at 3 p.m., and goes until 5 p.m. For directions to the GIC, please click on the link for their website.

Sunday, September 10th

On Sundays a dedicated group of volunteers head to a local animal shelter to help walk and play with dogs. Last weekend they had one of their highest turnouts ever, and they would like to have the same crowd today! For more details please go to their Facebook page. If you’re also interested in adopting, or fostering an animal, you can get more info on their page as well. Get some exercise while the dogs get some fresh air!
